Reddy Ice hired LiveLogic to develop batch reporting capabilities against an existing database. The existing reporting process required analysts to run queries against a Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services cube, copy and paste the data into Excel, and manipulate it into the proper format. As a result, only a few reports were generated each month, usually several weeks after close. LiveLogic built a new system using SQL Data Transformation Services to pull data out of the AS/400 into a star schema in SQL Server 2000 and then into an Analysis Services cube. A custom-built Excel application was developed to automate the monthly batch reports. As a result, a comprehensive book of reports is generated within minutes of month end close, delivering hundreds of reliable reports to plant managers, customers, sales reps, and to management at headquarters.
