AMX had an executive workbook produced each month with over forty sophisticated financial reports produced for AMX top executives. The process to produce these reports required cutting, pasting, and manual re-keying from the JD Edwards financial system into a series of very large, unwieldy Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. AMX looked to convert their financial analyst team from what were previously ‘overhead scorekeepers’ to more value-added roles of analysis and decision support. Additionally, AMX wanted to consolidate what was a piecemeal combination of many tools (MS Access, MS Excel, Crystal Reports, SQL, JD Edwards and others) into one flexible tool that could meet all of their analysis and reporting needs.
AMX turned to LiveLogic for help with porting this manual process over to a scalable reporting and analysis platform to be the first data mart of an envisioned enterprise data warehouse. AMX had a team of developers who wanted to own deliverables and come up to speed on the technology in order to achieve self-sufficiency on future data warehouse/data mart projects. AMX engaged LiveLogic to a consultative, educational role on the project. LiveLogic kicked off the project with a training workshop, assigned roles to appropriate AMX resources, and proceeded to act primarily as best practices advisors, co-project managers, and business analysts. Where AMX most needed help with someone to step in and do development work, LiveLogic did so. The result was a successful project, with a successful data mart, and an AMX team of employees who learned enough to the extent that they proceeded to develop a sales data mart and OLAP cube with Microsoft Analysis Services and Proclarity with a lessened LiveLogic involvement.
